Stain Removal Advice

We all suffer from those nasty spills and accidents. You'll Say Wow has compiled a list of common stains and the best way to defeat them using common household items.

Basic Rules of Stain Removal

  1. Attend to spill promptly and remove excess.
  2. Dilute with warm soapy water and absorb excess using a colour fast towel. (Old white towels and nappies are perfect)
  3. For blood and other protein spills use cold water as hot water will set the proteins and make it harder to remove.
  4. Repeat for as long as you are achieving a positive result. Don't scrub! Avoid bleach products.
  5. Don't over wet with solvents (eg turps and dry cleaning fluid), they can damage the carpet backing.

If you can't remove a fresh stain, keep it moist by covering with a damp towel until we can attend to it. Not allowing it to set can make it easier to remove.

Stain removers likely to be in the home:
Methylated spirits, cloudy ammonia, soap, sard soap, mineral turps, dry cleaning fluid, The Little General, vinegar, dishwashing liquid.

Warning: NEVER use any product that contains bleach as it will remove colour.
