In 1990 expatriate Kiwi Paddy Sweeney started a Carpet Cleaning company on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia.
Paddy originally hailed from the West Coast of the South Island and moved to Australia in 1981.
It was his goal to build an exceptional Carpet Cleaning Company that could continue to expand through Franchising, while providing a service that the opposition couldn’t match.
To do this he knew the company would have to have a point of difference, something that would put the business head and shoulders above all opposition. It didn’t take long for this point of difference to emerge. It soon became apparent there were many stains that couldn’t be removed and after searching the world for solutions it was also apparent that no formulations existed to remove the most stubborn of stains. Such things as Raspberry Cordial, Fanta, Coca Cola, Tea Coffee, Sauces and Medicines (to name just a few) just couldn’t be removed.
In exploring what was available in the world and talking to Industrial Chemists to find answers to the removal of these and many other stains, Paddy was met with a barrage of “Can’t be done” responses.
Being an optimist and a very positive person with a “can do’ attitude he didn’t accept this and started studying industrial chemistry in an effort to find the remedies he was seeking.
With much experimentation and many ‘dry gullies’ and as he puts it, ‘he was eventually lucky.’
He formulated a product called “Magic Stain Lifter”. It truly worked like magic, removing a myriad of previously impossible stains.
Paddy found other solutions as well, things others said couldn’t be done, he found the way.
In 1990 the company was called Spruce up and Sparkle, however after the breakthroughs started happening the name of the company changed to Stain Busters Cleaning Systems and in 1993 started franchising.
It continues to expand throughout Australia and now has over 40 vans on the road.
In 2001 Leo and Linda Foster became Franchisees on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and quickly tripled the turnover of their Stain Busters Franchise there.
Like many Kiwis, the call back home became stronger than that of staying in Australia.
So 2003 found them back in NZ and operating our first Franchise and also as Master Franchisees.
Because of some of the amazing things that were happening in Australia we decided on a name change.
What had been happening was our clients were continually amazed at the great job our technicians and franchisees carried out. They kept saying:
WOW, How did you get the carpets so clean?
WOW, how did you get all those stains out?
WOW, how come they’re not sopping wet?
WOW, how come they smell so fresh?
Plus many more WOW’s about the positive experienced they had received.
So we initially were going to call it WOW Carpet Cleaning. Then we decided to go one step further and call it “You’ll Say WOW Carpet Cleaning” based on the premise that we knew that’s what our clients would say.
In 2004 we commenced Franchising in the South Island when Craig and Shona McCorkindale took up the Franchise for Central Otago and Southland.
Since then the growth across the country has been quite rapid, with Franchise Owners and Clients alike loving the idea of WOWING and being WOWED.
This comes about from our professional ongoing training and support. Couple that with the most amazing stain removal products on the planet (no one else has them because we developed them) and the most advanced cleaning equipment obtainable. We are the only company in New Zealand with the Hot Clean Fast Dry process.
